Junior Powerboat Training Courses
Our Junior Powerboat Training Courses are for those aged 12 to 15 years old and are an ideal way to ensure young people can access structured, certified Powerboat training. Junior participants will be trained in helming our smaller boat, with crew roles training delivered on both the smaller and bigger boats, ensuring we are operating within Irish legislation age requirements for the operation of craft at all times.
The syllabus covered will be the Irish Sailing Introduction to Powerboating Course. This is a 1 day Powerboat course for beginners introducing participants to the enjoyable world of Powerboating with a strong emphasis on powerboat safety. Participants will get to learn some useful crew roles, the essentials you need to know to stay safe on board and get hands on driving experience on the course too!
Junior Powerboat Training Course Details
Objective:
The aim of the Introduction to Powerboating course is to provide a short practical introduction to boat handling and safety on powerboats being used on all Irish waters.

Primarily using our 4 metre RIB equipped with an 8 horsepower engine we can safely deliver this course to Junior participants while operating within Irish legislation and age requirements regarding the operation of Powerboats. The wording for this can be found in the Code of Practice: The Safe Operation of Recreational Craft.

It states "The master or owner of a PWC or fast power craft is required to take all reasonable steps to ensure that persons under the age of 16 years do not operate or control the craft. The term "fast power craft" means a craft that can attain a speed through or over the water of 17 knots or more."
